If you haven’t figured it out by now, I really like “chillwave”. If you’re like me, Canadian band/producer Teen Daze is right up your alley.  Admittedly, I’ve been a little slow to post about him – his debut EP Four More Years came out in August – but better late than never, right? I just heard his remix of Young Liar’s song Colours and figured it was about time I give him the recognition he deserves. Before listening, you should know that his music isn’t particularly distinctive or unique. Swirling synths abound with uptempo chill/dance beats and vague lyrics, but a lot of other bands have that too.  I like Teen Daze because he’s just really fucking good at what he does. That’s why I like his remixes more than his original stuff – he has the ability to take someone else’s song and just force himself into it. For instance, he manages to take Yeasayer’s New-Wave-ish hit O.N.E and turn it into a lethargic dance track that demands repeated listens. It’s like he’s got a Midas touch that turns anything he wants into chillwave. Enjoy.
