Passion Pit – Little Secrets (Moths Remix)
Frankly, listening to music these days has gotten me somewhat depressed. Not because music’s taken a downturn – quite the opposite in fact – but because half of the artists around are younger than I am. Jack Colleran, a.k.a Moths, is a perfect example. He’s only 17, yet somehow he’s developed an ear for melody and ambiance equivalent to someone twice his age. In this particular case, he took Passion Pit’s joyous hit Little Secrets and turned it into a down-tempo amalgamation of dreamwave and hip-hop elements that somehow still works. While the original hit you over the head with its feelings of excitement, Moth’s version is more subtle and vague about the emotion it’s trying to instill in you, allowing a degree of listener intrpetation that makes you connect with the song on a deeper level. And while Moths is able to do all of this, he can’t yet even buy a pack of cigarettes. Amazing.
