Alicia Keys – Rock Wit U (Hannes Fischer Remix)
Deep House producer Hannes Fischer is back at it again, this time turning his tremendous talents onto transforming (alliteration anyone?) Alicia Keys’ sub-par Rock Wit U. The original is a funk-soul-piano clash that feels just kind of rambles around for five repetitive minutes. It’s no wonder then that Mr. Fischer’s remix is more of a complete rework than a slight remix. Keeping only a chopped-up version of the lyrics, Fischer uses a sample of A Tribe Called Quest’s “Pad & Pen” to give the song a mellow vibe perfect for those who enjoy sitting out at midnight and looking at the stars. Fischer continually brings in and takes out little bits of instrumentation, each time adding something like a chef with would with a new spice. The track is just this side of being downtempo, the way good deep house is supposed to be. What a perfect way to gently lift yourself out of your Monday afternoon funk. Enjoy.
