Voltaire Twins – Animalia (Lifelike Remix)
French producer Lifelike is back to his synthpop ways with a new remix for the Australian group the Voltaire Twins. The Twins, who are actually real life brother and sister Tegan and Jaymes, first came onto my radar when I heard the expansively futuristic remix of their song D.I.L (below). I’m impressed to say that this follow up song and remix follow well in line with their progressive style of synthpop. The “Animalia” remix relies on ethereal “oooohs” and “ahhhs” to fill the gaps between the low-key vocals, giving it a strangely haunting feel at times. On top of that, Lifelike tops the track off with a vibe that is somewhere in-between new-wave and nu-disco. As a bonus today, I’ve also included Lifelike’s remix of Chromeo’s “When the Night Falls” from two weeks ago, which substitutes the new-wave vibe of this track for a straight funk edge. Enjoy.
