Goldroom has been making it onto some of my favorite playlists lately and his new original, “Angeles,” is no exception. For those of you that are not familiar with this breezy LA dj/producer, his name Josh Legg and he has been carving out a strong name for himself. Upside has featured him on two of our posts, Disco Friday 2 and Happy Nu Years. Both tracks there are must haves, especially his “Mother Protect” remix, originally by Niki & The Dove.
From the start of “Angeles,” Goldroom creates a soothing production by combining light drums, bass and guitar. As you listen, you’ll notice the beat becomes incredibly light and airy. Not many electronic producers are comfortable experimenting with this, however I think it has a lot of merit. When there is a downtempo, sometimes it’s easier for producers to tell their story and for listeners to get it, beyond what the words say. Though it may be obvious that the emotive vocals are yearning for Goldroom’s hometown, the instrumentals serve to create this ‘love story’ type of feel. Another jam that pays respect to LA is Louis La Roche’s track “Los Angeles” and it’s difficult to compare the two because both seem to represent a different character of the city. On chill days, pregames and post games, I prefer Goldroom’s because it just feels so goddam good. In terms of partying hard, La Roche delivers a great LA vibe to do so. Better yet, what do you think? Enjoy my friends.
