Viceroy: Obviously I don’t have to explain why I love summer, but one thing associated with summer that’s commonly overlooked is the cruisin’. Allow me to paint the scenario: It’s sunny and 85 out. Perhaps you’re driving to the beach or along the coast soaking in the views. You drop the top and enjoy the breeze. Maybe you light up a joint with your homies and just take in everything. You are just cruisin’ along and you need some tunes. Here are a few for you:
Bronx – I’ll Be Loving You
This just came out and it really captures that feel good hip hop tempo mixed with disco vibes. Mariah Carey’s vocals work so smoothly with the crafty instrumental Bronx made. Good vibes, good times.
Kartell – Le Jeunesse Retrouvee
This one is an oldie by my friend Kartell. I really like how he made use of the sample. It’s that tempo perfect for cruisin’ or a pool party.
Grateful Dead – Eyes of the World
I love jam bands. especially groups like Phish and The Grateful Dead. This specific recording of “Eyes of the World” by the Grateful Dead is probably a top 5 favorite song of mine of all time. It was recorded in San Francisco at the Winterland ballroom in October of 1974. It’s about 18 minutes long, but it flows so well and in my opinion I couldn’t think of a better song to cruise to in the summer.
Washed Out – New Theory (RAC Remix)
I love Washed Out’s lofi relaxed vibe. A lot of bands a few years back were going for that sound, but no one could match Washed Out. I love the song “New Theory” and I really dig my buddy RAC’s remix of it. He maintained the original vibe, but tweaked it and I think brought it to another level.
Fatlip – What’s Up Fatlip? (Breakbot Remix)
This is a similar situation with RAC remix. I love the original that Fat Lip released, but I think Breakbot’s light melodic beat really upped the ante. It can’t get much better than this.
